Frequently Asked Questions About Surrendering an Animal to Homeless to Home

  • Due to the large number of cats we support, surrenders are by appointment only. We are one of the few locations that are freely willing to help all cats. We are typically scheduled several weeks out for surrenders, but we strive to help every animal as soon as possible. We are very dependent on people to care for the cats until Homeless to Home is able to receive them. We are a managed intake facility. By scheduling appointments, we can plan safe places for the cats. To schedule an appointment for a surrender, please call us at 740-272-0849 Option 2. For emergencies, it’s best to take your animal to the nearest emergency veterinary clinic; however, if you are unable to do so, call 740-272-0849 and press Option 1. We respond to urgent situations and emergencies to the best of our ability.

  • We will need as much information as possible about the pet you are surrendering, including past medical conditions and vaccines. Please be prepared to provide this at your appointment time, along with your driver’s license.

  • While there is no cost to surrender an animal, it would be extremely helpful to bring any and all supplies (cat food, litter, favorite toy/blanket) at the time of surrender to keep the animal comfortable. We are always thankful for donations; in fact, we are 100% reliant on donations to run our facility.

  • Cats will receive a health exam, be vaccinated, spayed/neutered if needed, be evaluated for temperament, and then be placed for adoption or foster care if appropriate. Other animals will receive appropriate evaluation and care. By signing the surrender form at your appointment, you agree that all future care and decisions will be made solely by Homeless to Home. Please understand that due to the overwhelming caseload, it is difficult to provide updates on your surrenders or provide photos. Contact information of fosters, adopters, and surrenders is confidential.
